The new character wasn’t a complete surprise to fans of the ITV soap as he was unveiled earlier this month
Coronation Street fans have joked about Theo Silverton’s ‘link’ to Weatherfield as he made his first appearances in Weatherfield this week.
The new character wasn’t a complete surprise to fans of the ITV soap as he was unveiled earlier this month with it confirmed at the same time that actor James Cartwright would be taking on the new role.
James was then seen making his debut as Theo, the new potential love interest for Todd, during an unusual Tuesday (March 25) trip to the famous Street.
With his mum Eileen revealing how Julie Carp wants to live her final days to the full having been given a terminal cancer diagnosis, Todd sorted a trip to a cocktail bar for them.
As the two sisters got glammed up, Julie pretends to take her medication but secretly puts it away. As they headed to the tram, Julie was suddenly hit by pain and leaned on the wall for support but at the same time a piece of scaffolding fell and narrowly missed her.
Theo, the site manager apologises, although later told George Shuttleworth that Julie was clearly faking her pain as the scaffolding missed her by miles. But when George revealed that Julie has terminal cancer, Theo was left mortified.
In a bid to make amends, Theo told Todd that he’d like to buy Julie some flowers and offering him a flirtatious smile, Todd showed him the way to the florist before Theo popped round to Eileen’s to issue his apology.
There was clearly a spark between the pair and Todd didn’t hide his interest. It was then during Wednesday’s (March 26) episode that Julie tried to play cupid.
Seeing her nephew upset about his love life, Julie hatched a plan and making out they’ve got a leaky roof, arranged for Theo to call at No.11 where Todd was home alone.
Realising he had been set up, Theo spelled out to Todd that he’s not gay and he’d appreciate it if he and his crazy aunt would leave him alone. But soon after, Todd was seen grinning at his phone as he chatted with a man on a dating app and when he sent a picture, it was Theo.
But while the scenes were playing out Corrie fans were distracted by Theo’s appearance with him rocking a whie vest, hi-vis and hard hat in a number of scenes.
Making a cheeky link online, @I_am_KenBarlow posted a picture of the late Bill Tarmey portraying the legendary Jack Duckworth in the Greater Manchester soap.
Alongside a picture of the famous character, they wrote: “#Corrie What if the vesty scaffolder has come to Weatherfield looking for his long-lost father?”
Others, however, were simply distracted by the constant appearance in the vest. @rozlaws said: “The way the scaffolder goes everywhere in his vest to show off his muscles while everyone else is in jumpers is hilarious. He must be freezing. #corrie.”
@JenniferGa29345 echoed: “#Corrie is there a tropical heatwave in Weatherfield, that scaffolder permanently walking round in a singlet vest, he must be bloody freezing.” @ElsieCrowfoot wrote: “Nobody wears a vest in March ffs #Corrie.”
@david_lindsay77 joked: “Bring back Yasmeen. No one ate in Speed Daal in a vest on her watch. #CoronationStreet #Corrie.” @AmadeusMozart added: “It’s still only March. Do builders wear just vest in March? Asking for a friend. #Corrie.”
